Admission Process

From course selection to enrolment

Discuss your academic background, preferred course, budget and destination preferences.

2

Course selection

Shortlist suitable programmes and institutions based on entry requirements and goals.

3

Application

Prepare documents and submit the selected university or institute application.

4

Offer & enrolment

Review the offer, meet conditions and complete the required enrolment steps.

5

Visa preparation

Prepare financial, academic and supporting documentation for your student visa.

Student Visa

Prepare carefully for your New Zealand student visa

The Fee Paying Student Visa is for students paying international tuition fees themselves or with support such as family funding, a loan or scholarship. Applicants need an offer from an approved education provider and must demonstrate sufficient funds for tuition and living expenses, among other requirements.

Offer of place

Secure an offer from an approved education provider for the intended course.

Financial evidence

Prepare evidence covering tuition and required living-cost funds.

Insurance

Declare that you will have insurance acceptable to your education provider.

Genuine study plan

Present a clear academic plan supported by your education history and intended programme.

Documents

Prepare passport, offer, financial, academic and other relevant documents.

Current conditions

Visa rules and conditions can change, so prepare using requirements applicable when you apply.

Part-Time Work

Work rights depend on your student visa conditions

Current Immigration New Zealand guidance states that eligible Fee Paying Student Visa holders may be granted permission to work up to 25 hours a week while studying and full-time during scheduled holidays, depending on their visa conditions.

Do not rely on a generic work-hours claim. Your individual visa conditions are the controlling requirements, and work rights can differ according to your course, age and visa conditions.
After Your Studies

Understand your post-study options

Eligible graduates may apply for a Post Study Work Visa, which can allow work in New Zealand for up to 3 years depending on the qualification and circumstances. Immigration rules are changing during 2026, so the pathway must be checked against the qualification and application date.

Degree-level study

Eligible degree-level 7 or higher qualifications can provide access to the Post Study Work Visa when requirements are met.

Master's pathway

Eligible Master's graduates may qualify for a post-study work period of up to 3 years, subject to current requirements.

Late-2026 changes

From 16 November 2026, additional graduate work pathways and expanded Post Study Work Visa eligibility are scheduled for specified qualifications.

Post-study work eligibility is qualification- and date-sensitive. TRUEMATICS can explain the current pathway relevant to your course.
Scholarships & Funding

Plan your funding strategy early

Provider scholarships

Some institutions offer scholarships or tuition support for eligible international students. Availability and criteria vary.

Academic profile

Scholarship consideration can depend on academic performance, programme, intake and provider criteria.

Budget planning

Even with a scholarship, plan for remaining tuition, living costs, travel and visa-related expenses.
