The foundation and further history of the Academy is closely connected with the history of the city of Kherson, a shipbuilding center on the South of Ukraine.
Founded in 1778 and located at the advantageous geographical and military position Kherson became a cradle of shipbuilding industry on the Black sea. The rapid development of shipbuilding emerged the demand for marine specialists – navigators and skippers.
To respond to Count Vorontsov’s request on February 20th, 1834 the School of Merchant Shipping was established by the emperor Nikolay I order. The order read: “This educational institution should train, firstly, future navigators and skippers for merchant fleet, and secondly, shipbuilders of commercial vessels.
International Students Department of KSMA deals with all the formalities regarding preparing of foreign students in accredited basic directions (specialties).
Training of foreign citizens is carried out for educational qualification levels of bachelor, specialist and master.

KSMA collaborates with the worldwide-known German company Marlow Navigation. A long-term agreement (which has no analogues in the world) has been made with it. Now (at present) Marlow Navigation is not only a company employer for many graduates of KSMA, but also an important investor into the development of its studying, laboratories and material base. Education (daily and by-correspondence) is financed either by the state budjet or physical and juridical person according to educational qualification levels:

Climate in Kherson :
Kharkivs climate is humid continental , with cold and snowy winters, and hot summers. The seasonal average temperatures are not too cold in winter, not too hot in summer: 4.6 degree Celsius in January, and +21.3 degree Celsius in July. The average rainfall totals 513 mm (20 in) per year, with the most in June and July.
Hostel facility :
The university have hostel on campus. The rooms are shared by 2 - 3 person.

A Modern ship consists of a host of complex and sophisticated machinery like large diesel engines, boilers,
steam engines, steam turbines, gas turbines, alternators, pumps, crosses, winches, compressors, refrigeration & air-conditioning plants etc. The role of the Marine engineer is to perform the task of operating and maintaining
these machinery safely and efficiently which requires a high degree of skill and expertise.
